Toyota Becomes Title Partner of Haas — Team to Race as TGR Haas F1 Team in 2026

Toyota Gazoo Racing will be the title partner of Haas from 2026, and the team will race as the TGR Haas F1 Team. The technical partnership—focused on design and engineering—deepens Toyota’s presence in Formula 1 but does not include a Toyota engine; Haas will continue using Ferrari power. Team leaders praised the strengthened ties and noted the move does not constitute a full factory return. The announcement comes as the 2025 season heads to its finale with three drivers still vying for the title.

Toyota Becomes Title Partner of Haas — Team to Race as TGR Haas F1 Team in 2026

The Haas Formula 1 team will race under a new name in 2026 after agreeing to a title partnership with Toyota. From next season the team will be called the TGR Haas F1 Team, with TGR standing for Toyota Gazoo Racing, Toyota Motor Corporation’s motorsport division.

Partnership details

The collaboration, which began with initial technical cooperation about a year ago, focuses on design and technical services and brings Toyota deeper into Formula 1 than it has been since withdrawing its factory effort at the end of the 2009 season. The agreement does not include a Toyota power unit; Haas will continue to run Ferrari engines in 2026.

Although Toyota previously competed as a works team through 2009 and invested heavily without securing a race victory, this title partnership appears to stop short of a full factory return to the sport. Instead, it strengthens Toyota’s technical footprint and brand presence within F1.

Leadership comments

"It's naturally a privilege to deepen our relationship with TGR through this new title partnership agreement," said Ayao Komatsu, team principal of Haas.

Akio Toyoda, chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation, added: "Throughout our challenges in the 2025 season, I witnessed young TGR drivers and engineers begin to believe in their own potential and set their sights on even greater dreams. Seeing this transformation moved me deeply. And today, I can say this with confidence — Toyota has begun to move. Really move."

Toyoda has previously expressed second thoughts about withdrawing Toyota from F1 and said he regretted not giving younger drivers more opportunities at the time.

Context: the 2025 championship

The announcement arrives as the 2025 season heads into its final race in Abu Dhabi, with three drivers still in contention. Lando Norris of McLaren leads the standings by 12 points over Max Verstappen of Red Bull, while Norris’s teammate Oscar Piastri sits 16 points adrift. Norris and Piastri are each seeking their first championship, while Verstappen is aiming for a fifth consecutive title.

This title partnership positions Toyota as a more visible and technical partner in F1 while leaving Haas’s powertrain choices unchanged for now. Observers will be watching how the collaboration influences car development, personnel pathways and opportunities for young Toyota-affiliated talent in the years ahead.
