Repeat Offender Charged with Kidnapping and Rape After Snapchat Meetup

Abdimahat Bille Mohamed, 28, is charged with kidnapping and repeated sexual assaults after prosecutors say he used Snapchat to meet a woman in Mankato and then drove her to a Bloomington hotel. The victim reportedly escaped on Sept. 21 and alerted a resident, who called police. The arrest follows earlier plea agreements in separate 2017 and 2024 sexual‑assault cases, where Mohamed avoided immediate prison time under stayed sentences. He is held on $300,000 bond pending further proceedings.

Repeat Offender Charged with Kidnapping and Rape After Snapchat Meetup

Abdimahat Bille Mohamed, 28, has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged kidnapping and repeated sexual assaults after prosecutors say he used Snapchat to arrange a meeting with a woman in September.

Alleged abduction and escape

According to prosecutors and court records, Mohamed met the woman at a residence in Mankato and then drove her to a hotel in Bloomington. After she entered his car, the woman alleges Mohamed told her, "You’re not going home," and took her phone when she attempted to flee. Authorities say he held the woman against her will for several days and sexually assaulted her multiple times.

The victim reportedly escaped on Sept. 21 by jumping from Mohamed’s vehicle on Aldrich Avenue South. A nearby resident found the woman in distress and called police.

Prior convictions and related cases

The September incident came months after Mohamed received sentences in two unrelated sexual-assault matters. Court records and prosecutorial filings indicate Mohamed faced separate 2017 and 2024 sexual-assault allegations:

  • In December 2017, Mohamed is accused of meeting a 15‑year‑old on Snapchat, driving her to Minneapolis, and participating in an assault in which the victim was forced to perform sexual acts. That matter resulted in a plea that included a three-year prison sentence that was stayed for five years, a 364‑day workhouse term credited as time served, and five years of probation.
  • In 2024, prosecutors say Mohamed lured another woman to an apartment and raped her, allegedly threatening to shoot her and strangling her during the assault. That case led to a 14‑month prison sentence that was also stayed, plus local workhouse credit and probation under a plea agreement.

Additional charges from October 2024 have also been reported in connection with a separate alleged rape.

Current charges and detention

Jail records show Mohamed now faces felony counts including third‑degree criminal sexual conduct and kidnapping in the September case. He is being held at the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility on $300,000 bond. Prosecutors and the county attorney's office have been identified in public records as sources for the charges; no immediate comment was provided by the county on the pending matters.

These allegations remain charges. Mohamed is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
