A pre-licensed therapist in Bow, New Hampshire, has been arrested and charged after a patient alleged he sexually assaulted her during an in-office session that began as couples counseling.

Bow police say 51-year-old Daniel Thibeault was taken into custody on Jan. 5 and faces two counts of felonious sexual assault and one count of aggravated felonious sexual assault. Authorities say the department first received an allegation in August 2025 that Thibeault — described as pre-licensed while working toward full licensure — had sexually assaulted a female patient during a visit to his office.

According to court records obtained by the Concord Monitor and WMUR, the woman first met with Thibeault in July when she and her husband sought marriage counseling. After a few joint sessions the woman moved out and continued individual therapy with Thibeault.

Police say the alleged assault came to light after the woman’s father reported the incident on Aug. 20. Court documents state the woman told investigators that Thibeault rubbed her body, later lifted her and kissed her while saying, "I’m so attracted to you." She told police she repeatedly asked him to stop. The filings also say Thibeault told the patient he was trying to make her feel beautiful again; the woman said she felt he had taken advantage of her because he knew about her marital status and a history of prior abuse.

Alleged statement reported in filings: "I'm so attracted to you."

Following the reported incident, the woman went to a local hospital for a medical forensic exam. DNA analysis results released on Dec. 1 reportedly detected the presence of an unknown male, according to the court records cited by local outlets.

Bow police said the investigation remains active and encouraged anyone with information about the case or about Daniel Thibeault to contact Detective Sergeant Tyler Coday at the Bow Police Department at 603-223-3956 or via email at tcoady@bownhpd.gov. WMUR reported that Thibeault is being held without bail at the Merrimack County House of Corrections and is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
