Trump Announces Immediate End to Temporary Protected Status for Somalis in Minnesota

President Donald Trump announced he is immediately terminating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalis living in Minnesota. He posted on Truth Social that "Somali gangs are terrorizing" the state and alleged that "BILLIONS of Dollars" are missing. The move removes a deportation protection that had previously shielded eligible Somalis from removal.

Trump Announces Immediate End to Temporary Protected Status for Somalis in Minnesota

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he is immediately terminating the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) protections for Somalis living in Minnesota.

"Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of that great State, and BILLIONS of Dollars are missing," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

"I am, as President of the United States, hereby terminating, effective immediately, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS Program) for Somalis in Minnesota," he added.

TPS is a humanitarian program that shields eligible foreign nationals from deportation when conditions in their home countries — such as armed conflict or environmental disaster — make return unsafe. According to the president's statement, the change takes effect immediately and removes that deportation protection for Somalis in Minnesota unless they qualify for another form of relief.

The announcement centers on the president's claims about criminal activity and missing funds; these assertions were made publicly on his social platform and have not been independently verified within this report.
