The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office says an armed man in Parkland, Washington, allegedly asked a passerby about his religion and then stabbed the man and his dog just before 6:30 a.m. on Sunday. The victim called 911 and provided a description of the suspect, leading deputies to search the area. About two hours later a deputy located a man matching that description; deputies fired after the suspect advanced toward them, and the suspect later died at a hospital. The dog was taken into surgery; the current conditions of the dog and human victim have not been released. The investigation is ongoing and authorities have not yet labeled the attack a hate crime.

Incident Details

The attack occurred just before 6:30 a.m. on Sunday near the S S Quickstop Grocer, according to a social media post from the sheriff’s office. The injured man called 911 and told dispatchers he had been stabbed by an unknown assailant. When deputies arrived, both the man and his dog were reported to be in serious condition.

“The victim answered the man and said something about being a Christian, and the man then attacked and stabbed the victim and his dog,” the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said.

Police Response And Aftermath

Before being taken to a hospital, the victim provided a description of the suspect. Deputies searched the area for several hours and, approximately two hours after the 911 call, a deputy spotted a man matching that description on the 800 block of 112th Street. According to local reporting, the suspect ran behind a nearby house; deputies pursued, and the man advanced toward them. Deputies fired and the suspect was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
