Rep. Jasmine Crockett urged consumers to boycott Target after the company said it would scale back DEI efforts, saying she wants to see the retailer's "numbers go down." Speaking on "COSIGN Conversations," she pushed for organized boycotts and greater support for Black-owned businesses. Progressive figures like Rev. Al Sharpton have also backed boycotts, and a Minnesota Target recently saw an anti-ICE sit-in. Crockett framed anti-DEI and immigration policies as part of a broader "White supremacy agenda."

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) has called on consumers to boycott Target after the retailer announced plans to scale back diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives beginning in 2025. Speaking on the "COSIGN Conversations" podcast, Crockett urged organized consumer pressure and stronger support for Black entrepreneurship as a response to major corporations moving away from DEI programs.

Boycott Call and Rationale

Crockett encouraged targeted boycotts of companies she believes "don't want to work" with Black communities. "I want to see a bad Q1 for Target. I do. I want to see their numbers go down," she said, arguing that retailers like Target have profited from Black consumers by stocking Black hair and cosmetic products while stepping back from DEI commitments.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, supported Target boycotts on "COSIGN Conversations" Monday.

"Target has made so much money off our backs because they have gone after making sure that they could have the Black hair products in there and so many others. But like all Black cosmetics... forget it," Crockett said.

Wider Context

Progressive leaders, including Rev. Al Sharpton, have supported calls for a Target boycott since the company announced its DEI scaling-back plan. That corporate decision followed an executive order from President Donald Trump directing federal agencies to end certain DEI practices and encouraging private employers to consider similar changes.

A Target store in Minnesota was the site of an anti-ICE sit-in on the same day, with protesters alleging the retailer allowed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to operate in its parking lot. Fox News Digital reached out to Target for comment.

Crockett's Broader Critique

In the interview, Crockett framed the administration's anti-DEI and immigration actions as part of what she called a "White supremacy agenda," saying efforts to limit immigrant rights, roll back DEI programs and target LGBTQIA communities stem from the same force.

"It all boils down to a White supremacy agenda, period... Whether you're talking about kicking immigrants out, that's White supremacy. Whether you're talking about going after diversity, equity and inclusion, that's White supremacy," Crockett said.

This episode underscores ongoing national debates about corporate responsibility, consumer activism, and the role of DEI programs in workplaces and public institutions.
