ICE released photos Friday of four men it identified as alleged agitators arrested after refusing repeated orders to disperse outside the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building in Minneapolis. DHS said separate overnight clashes led to 12 arrests for allegedly assaulting law enforcement. The demonstrations come after two recent high-profile ICE-related incidents in the city, including the Jan. 7 fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good and a separate ambush that left an officer seriously injured. Tensions remain high as crowds returned to protest and federal agencies continue to investigate.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Friday released photos of four men the agency identified as alleged agitators arrested during protests outside the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building in Minneapolis.

ICE said the arrests occurred Thursday after officers issued repeated orders to disperse. The agency said the four men were taken into custody and booked on federal charges.

"Yesterday, law enforcement at Whipple Federal Building faced violent anti-ICE agitators who threw objects, shouted profanities, and endangered the public by pouring water on the roads to create icy, hazardous conditions," ICE posted on X. "After repeated warnings, 4 agitators were arrested for refusing to disperse and booked on federal charges."

Clashes, Arrests and Official Statements

The arrests came amid overnight demonstrations that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said resulted in 12 people being detained for allegedly assaulting law enforcement officers. DHS posted on X: "Last night in Minneapolis 12 anti-ICE agitators were arrested for assaulting law enforcement. Reminder: it is a federal crime and a FELONY if you lay a finger on law enforcement or destroy federal property."

ICE and DHS statements did not make clear whether the four men whose photos were released are among the 12 people detained overnight.

Why Protests Have Intensified

Protests have continued near the Whipple Federal Building — which houses ICE, DHS and the Department of Veterans Affairs — following two high-profile incidents involving ICE officers in Minneapolis.

On Jan. 7, Renee Nicole Good, a U.S. citizen, was fatally shot by an ICE agent. Video and court filings show an agent fired into the driver's windshield and through an open window; the shooting prompted local officials and residents to condemn the action and call for prosecution. Federal officials and some Republican lawmakers have described the shooting as justified, and the incident has become a central point of contention.

Separately, federal authorities said an ICE officer was seriously injured after an alleged ambush during a traffic stop. Officials say the stop escalated into a foot chase and violent struggle that included gunfire; one suspect was shot and multiple suspects were taken into custody.

Current Status

Protests resumed Friday with crowds again gathering outside the Whipple Federal Building. DHS had not responded to additional requests for comment as of Friday. Local and federal law-enforcement statements indicate tensions remain high in Minneapolis over recent ICE-related incidents.

Reporting Note: This account is based on statements from ICE and DHS and reporting by local outlets. Some details remain under investigation, and authorities have not confirmed whether the four individuals whose photos were released are the same people charged in the overnight arrests.
