Security-camera footage dated November 25 shows Bruna Ferreira being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents outside her home in Revere, Massachusetts. The clip captures multiple vehicles converging on her car; Ferreira, wearing a gray hoodie, exits the vehicle and is handcuffed before being led away.

Ferreira is a native of Brazil who entered the United States as a child under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. She has an 11-year-old son with Michael Leavitt, the brother of White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

“She’s in the process of actually getting her residency and she was abruptly arrested and taken from her young child right before Thanksgiving,” said Todd Pomerleau, Ferreira’s attorney.

Following the arrest, the Department of Homeland Security issued a statement describing Ferreira as 'a criminal illegal alien from Brazil' and noting a previous arrest for battery. The statement also said Ferreira was transported to the South Louisiana ICE Processing Center and is currently in removal proceedings.

Family members and her attorney have expressed concern about the timing of the detention, saying she was pursuing lawful residency and was separated from her child just days before a major holiday. ICE enforcement actions that involve parents of young children often spark public debate about immigration policy and enforcement discretion.

What to watch next: court filings and immigration hearings will determine whether Ferreira remains in removal proceedings or is released while her residency application continues.
