DHS Releases 3:31 Video Showing Renee Good Blocking Street, Challenging Mayor Frey’s Claim She Was 'Trying To Leave'

The Department of Homeland Security posted a 3 minute, 31 second video it says shows Renee Good blocking a residential street, countering Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey’s claim that she was trying to leave before she was shot. The footage shows Good’s Honda Pilot obstructing a lane, other vehicles squeezing past, and ICE agents approaching the vehicle; it ends immediately before Good appears to drive forward and is shot. DHS described Good as an "anti-ICE agitator" who impeded law enforcement for more than three minutes. The shooting has sparked protests and prompted Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to announce additional ICE deployments.

The Department of Homeland Security on Sunday posted a 3 minute, 31 second video that it says shows Renee Good blocking a residential street — a release intended to dispute Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey’s statement that Good was "definitively trying" to leave the scene before she was shot and killed.

The DHS clip was shared on X in response to an excerpt of Mayor Frey’s appearance on Meet the Press, where he told viewers to "watch the video" and argued that Good did not "run over" an ICE agent, a description used by President Donald Trump.

Mayor Jacob Frey: "You had a person that was definitively trying to just get out of there. They were trying to leave the scene. That is not a person who is trying to run an ICE agent over."

In the DHS footage, Good’s Honda Pilot is shown stopped across one lane of a narrow, two-lane residential street while multiple car horns sound. At one point another SUV that appears to be an ICE vehicle squeezes behind the Pilot along the right curb to pass. Several other vehicles are shown maneuvering around the stopped car.

ICE agents are visible walking near the vehicle as the phone-recorded video pans across the scene from different angles. The clip concludes as agents approach the Pilot — a moment that immediately precedes the sequence in which Good appears to attempt to drive forward and is subsequently shot.

Alongside the video, DHS wrote: "Let’s check the tape," adding that "for more than 3 minutes the anti-ICE agitator impeded a law enforcement operation with her vehicle." The characterization and the footage have become focal points in competing public narratives about what happened.

Good’s death prompted anti-ICE demonstrations and drew criticism from Democratic officials including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told Fox News she was dispatching "hundreds more" ICE agents to Minnesota to support those already deployed and to help ensure agents can operate "safely." Noem said on Fox that if protesters commit violent acts or impede operations, authorities will hold them accountable.

The DHS release and Mayor Frey’s comments have intensified debate over the circumstances of the shooting, the actions of protesters and agents at the scene, and how the incident has been publicly framed. The original account of the DHS post first appeared on Mediaite.
