Anti‑ICE Demonstrators Arrested After Clashes During Chinatown Raid in Lower Manhattan

Multiple demonstrators were arrested after a raid at a parking garage in Chinatown sparked clashes in Lower Manhattan. Protesters were reported to have chased cars, blocked traffic and — according to the NYPD — thrown planters at federal agents. Local reports estimated more than 150 people gathered and several were detained for failing to disperse. The incident follows a similar confrontation earlier this month and comes amid wider ICE and Border Patrol deployments to several U.S. cities.

Multiple demonstrators were arrested Saturday after a federal enforcement operation at a parking garage in Chinatown triggered confrontations with protesters in Lower Manhattan.

Scene in Chinatown

Reporter Olivia Leach described a "very active" scene near the corner of Howard Street and Centre Street where protesters, having learned of the operation, moved to interfere as federal officers searched a parking garage. Witnesses and officials said some demonstrators chased cars leaving the garage, blocked traffic at times and threw objects at officers. The NYPD reported that some protesters had thrown planters at agents.

Video from the scene showed several confrontations between protesters and police. A small group dressed in black and wearing masks and helmets was arrested while other demonstrators remained nearby chanting; one woman was seen holding a sign that read "ICE OUT OF NYC." Local police worked to clear the area so federal agents could depart, and several people who did not comply with repeated dispersal orders were taken into custody.

Earlier Clash and Context

The demonstration follows a tense encounter earlier this month captured live by reporter Jessica Kartalija, when protesters confronted federal agents and voices at the scene included angry, profanity‑filled denunciations of the operation. One protester was recorded saying, "We don’t want them in our f**king city! ... They should not be able to kidnap people in the streets!" and defended traffic disruption as necessary to stop arrests.

Local reports estimated more than 150 people gathered during Saturday’s actions. Authorities say the raid was part of a broader deployment of ICE and Border Patrol personnel to several U.S. cities as federal immigration enforcement operations continue.
