Federal officials say anti-ICE agitators 'going after the dogs' after Minneapolis kennel incident

Federal officials say a CBP K-9 named Dina was targeted in Minneapolis after someone allegedly wrote "ICE OUT" on the dog's feed chart. The incident occurred amid protests following the Jan. 7 fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent. Minnesota mobilized the National Guard to stage in support of local authorities, and a senior U.S. official said the military is preparing about 1,500 troops after threats to invoke the Insurrection Act.

Federal officials on Wednesday reported that a Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) K-9 in Minneapolis was targeted after someone allegedly wrote "ICE OUT" on the dog’s feed chart. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) named the canine as K-9 Dina and said the incident is part of a pattern of protesters focusing attacks on CBP K-9 units.

What Officials Say

In a social media post, DHS said:

"At the kennel where K-9 Dina was staying, it was discovered that an employee had written \"ICE OUT\" on her feed chart. THEY'RE EVEN GOING AFTER THE DOGS!"

Officials have not disclosed which kennel was housing Dina or whether the employee accused of writing the message remains employed there. A senior U.S. official later told Fox News that the military is preparing roughly 1,500 troops for possible deployment to Minnesota after President Donald Trump threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act.

Broader Context

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in Minneapolis after the Jan. 7 fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during an operation in the city. Protests have continued since the shooting, and state officials say the Minnesota National Guard has been mobilized at Governor Tim Walz's direction to stage and support local law enforcement and emergency management agencies.

State officials emphasized that Guardsmen have not been deployed onto city streets but are prepared to assist public safety efforts if called upon. Federal and local authorities continue to monitor demonstrations and investigate incidents linked to ongoing protests.

Note: Reporting remains fluid. Officials have provided limited details about the kennel and any personnel actions, and investigations into related events and threats are ongoing.
