The 2026 Winter Olympics officially open tonight with a spectacular ceremony at Milan’s San Siro Stadium. Below are the other top stories to follow this morning.

Search Continues For Nancy Guthrie

The search for Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie, has entered its sixth day after she was abducted from her Arizona home. Investigators say they believe she is still alive, though no suspects have been publicly named. The FBI has joined local authorities and announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to her recovery. Nancy’s son, Camron, made a public plea on Thursday: “We are waiting for contact.” Several media outlets have reported receiving ransom notes demanding millions in bitcoin; authorities are investigating whether those notes are genuine.

Trump Administration Debuts Drug Price Platform

The White House launched TrumpRx.gov, a website intended to connect cash-paying patients directly with drugmakers offering certain medicines. The administration says several well-known drugs, including obesity treatments Zepbound and Wegovy, appear with discounted prices on the site. President Donald Trump touted major savings, but analysts and pharmacy comparisons show some listed prices are similar to local retail costs — leaving the platform’s real-world savings unclear.

ICE Reform Talks And Funding Standoff

The White House indicated President Trump is open to considering some Democratic proposals to reform Immigration and Customs Enforcement, while calling other demands “non-starters.” Democrats say they will not back a full-year Department of Homeland Security funding bill unless “dramatic changes” are made to ICE; funding for the agency is scheduled to expire next Friday. House Speaker Mike Johnson has already rejected at least two high-profile Democratic requests — banning agents from wearing face masks during operations and requiring judicial search warrants for immigration enforcement actions.

U.S. Strike Targets Suspected Drug Boat

U.S. Southern Command said U.S. forces struck another suspected drug-trafficking vessel in the eastern Pacific on Thursday, killing two people. Since September, strikes on suspected narcotics boats have killed at least 119 people as part of an administration campaign to disrupt drug trafficking. The strikes have provoked questions about legality and evidence, as officials have provided limited public proof that those killed were cartel members or that targeted vessels carried narcotics.

Epstein Paid For Experimental Genetic Testing

Newly released emails indicate the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein paid for experimental genetic tests as part of apparent efforts to extend his life. Years after his 2008 conviction on prostitution-related charges, Epstein covered novel tests by a doctor at a major U.S. hospital and explored creating stem cells tied to immunity and healing. An invoice shows the proposed work could have topped $190,000, though it is unclear how much was actually paid. The records also describe discussions in which Epstein mused about using his genes to influence future human lineages, and they raise questions about some researchers’ ties to his funding.
