A Las Vegas motorcyclist, identified by family as Matias Lagarreta, was struck by a white SUV in a hit-and-run on Jan. 12 at Marion Drive and Lake Mead Boulevard and was ejected from his bike. Lagarreta was rushed to University Medical Center with a brain bleed and bruised lungs and was placed in a medically induced coma; reports say he woke on Jan. 15. Police believe the suspect vehicle may be a 2020–2022 white Kia Sportage with right-side damage and are asking witnesses with dash-cam or doorbell footage to contact LVMPD or Crime Stoppers. The family has launched a GoFundMe to help with medical expenses.

Police in Las Vegas are investigating a hit-and-run collision that left a new father hospitalized with a serious brain injury.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) says the crash occurred on Monday, Jan. 12 at about 5:15 p.m. local time at the intersection of Marion Drive and Lake Mead Boulevard. According to investigators, a white SUV — possibly a 2020–2022 White Kia Sportage or a similar model — struck a motorcyclist and then fled the scene. Family members later identified the rider as Matias Lagarreta.

Injuries and Hospitalization

A GoFundMe organized by the family reports that Lagarreta was ejected from his motorcycle and rushed to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, including a brain bleed and bruised lungs. He was placed in the ICU and put into a medically induced coma; local outlet FOX5 reported he woke from the coma on Thursday, Jan. 15.

Family Reaction

"We were gonna run our errands together, but he said, 'No, it's OK. I'll go on the motorcycle,'" Ashley Lagarreta recalled to FOX5. "I was able to tell him I love him, and he was able to say it back."

The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, on Dec. 15, 2025. The family has set up a GoFundMe to help with medical bills and recovery expenses.

Suspect Vehicle And Call For Help

Investigators say the white SUV may have damage to its right side. The driver left the scene after the collision. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dash-cam or doorbell footage to come forward.
