The King’s Foundation will build an $8.7 million single-story extension — The King’s Hall — at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire, Scotland. The 4,628 sq ft addition, including a 3,035 sq ft hall for up to 200 guests, will replace an older Pavilion and begin hosting events in July 2027. Proceeds from venue hire and ticketed visits will be reinvested into conservation, education and community programmes that reach more than 10,000 people annually. The project features sustainable heating (heat pumps and biomass boilers) and a focus on organic, locally sourced catering.
King Charles Unveils $8.7M "King’s Hall" at Dumfries House — Luxury Wedding and Events Venue Opening Summer 2027

King Charles' charity, The King’s Foundation, has announced plans for a $8.7 million single-story extension at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire, Scotland. The new wing — to be named The King’s Hall — will create a dedicated luxury events and wedding venue while generating income for conservation, education and community programmes on the estate.
What’s Planned
The 4,628-square-foot addition to the East Wing will include a 3,035-square-foot public hall capable of hosting up to 200 guests. The extension will replace the existing Pavilion — which has served as the site’s events space for more than a decade — and is designed to form a seamless complement to the historic Robert Adam–designed house.
Purpose and Impact
The King’s Foundation, established by Charles in 1990 and headquartered at the 300-year-old Dumfries House on a 2,000-acre estate, says revenue from ticketed visits and venue hire will be reinvested into conservation and wider development across the estate. Income will also support the foundation’s education and community programmes, which engage more than 10,000 people every year.
Evan Samson, General Manager of Dumfries House for The King’s Foundation, said: 'The King’s Hall will offer the intimacy, atmosphere and historic grandeur that guests expect at Dumfries House. Our ambition is for it to become a premier destination for luxury weddings and private events nationally and internationally, while generating revenue to create employment and fund education opportunities for the local community.'
Sustainability and Operations
The project includes sustainable infrastructure: new heat pumps and biomass boilers will serve both the hall and the main house. Catering for events will emphasize organic and locally sourced produce, reflecting the King’s long-standing interest in sustainable food and farming.
With the new facility, The King’s Foundation expects to increase large-scale bookings from the present average of one to two events per week to five or six, while also hosting community and educational activities that align with the charity’s mission.
Timeline
The King’s Hall is scheduled to open for its first events in July 2027, with the estate’s front-of-house team managing bookings and hospitality.
Gordon Neil, executive director of The King’s Foundation, described the new space as a lasting testament to His Majesty’s support for Dumfries House and for the education and employment opportunities it provides locally.
Reports in late 2024 signalled the King’s interest in creating a modern, high-end wedding space at Dumfries House; the foundation’s January announcement now confirms the formal plans.
