A Texas grand jury indicted Uvalde County Judge William Ross Mitchell on a charge of official oppression after he allegedly ordered a deputy to detain a UPS driver at the courthouse. The driver had left packages on the first floor because the courthouse elevator was out of service; he was briefly handcuffed and then released. The State Commission on Judicial Conduct has suspended Mitchell without pay while the matter is resolved.
