Investigators have named 74-year-old Dwight William Rhone a person of interest after human remains were discovered at a Newton Avenue property in San Diego’s Southcrest neighborhood. The California Highway Patrol and the FBI — with assistance from the San Diego Police Cold Case/Missing Persons Unit — conducted the search, which the FBI described as part of a cold case investigation. Sources said multiple remains were recovered, and detectives will work with the county medical examiner to identify the remains and determine causes of death. Rhone has been in custody since Dec. 5, 2024, in connection with the Oct. 18, 2023, homicide of Bernardo Moreno.
