Ahkeyajahnique Owens, 24, surrendered to Long Beach police Wednesday after investigators said video and forensic evidence tied her to two separate deadly collisions that occurred months apart.
What Happened
Police say Owens had been free on bail following an Oct. 6 crash in Long Beach that allegedly killed a bicyclist. Authorities then linked her to a Jan. 4 hit-and-run that killed two people and injured three others.
Victims
The January collision is reported to have killed Gilberto Lopez, 21, and Bobbi Smith, 24. Three additional people suffered injuries in that crash.
Legal Status
Owens turned herself in to Long Beach police and was booked on $200,000 bail. She has been charged with felony vehicular manslaughter in the October case. Officials said she is likely to face additional charges connected to the January crash once investigators present evidence to the District Attorney’s Office next week.
Investigation
The Long Beach Police Department stated that video and forensic evidence link Owens to both collisions. Authorities have not yet released details about the causes of either crash as the investigations are ongoing.
