The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office says it has removed previously published cause-and-manner details for Rob and Michele Reiner after receiving a court order that the office states was "initiated by" the Los Angeles Police Department. The order, received on Dec. 24 at 10:30 a.m., placed a security hold preventing the release of any related records until it is lifted.
Rob and Michele Reiner's son, Nick Reiner, was charged for the death of his parents.
In a Monday statement, the Medical Examiner's Office said:
"While the cause and manner of death were previously released on these cases, due to the court order, the information is no longer available. No other case information or records, including the Medical Examiner report, can be released or posted on the website until further notice."
The office added that it will provide further information once the court order is lifted.
Rob and Michele Reiner died due to multiple sharp force injuries.
On Dec. 23, death certificates obtained by Fox News Digital from the Los Angeles County Public Health Department were made public. The certificates indicate both Rob and Michele Reiner were cremated at Mount Sinai Mortuary and list the cause of death as multiple sharp-force injuries, described as "with knife, by another."
Rob Reiner's son Nick Reiner is set to be arraigned on Jan. 7.
Authorities discovered the couple's bodies on Dec. 14 in the primary bedroom of their Brentwood home. Investigators quickly identified their son, Nick Reiner, as a person of interest; he was arrested that evening at about 9:15 p.m. local time.
On Dec. 16, Los Angeles prosecutors charged Nick with two counts of first-degree murder and added a special-circumstance allegation of multiple murder. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the defendant "personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife." The charges carry a maximum penalty of life without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. Prosecutors have not yet announced whether they will seek capital punishment.
Nick Reiner made his initial court appearance on Dec. 17; his attorney requested a continuance and his arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 7. Fox News Digital has reached out to the LAPD for comment. The Medical Examiner's Office said it will release additional information when legally permitted.
