Knife-Wielding Man Shot Dead by Police at St. Louis Lambert International Airport

A man carrying a knife was shot and killed by police at St. Louis Lambert International Airport just after 1 a.m. on Nov. 21. Officers ordered him to drop the weapon and used a Taser before a second officer fired when the man allegedly continued to advance. Just after 1 a.m. on Nov. 21, officers conducting routine security checks in Terminal 1 at St. Louis Lambert International Airport encountered a man carrying a knife, the St. Louis County Police Department said.

Confrontation and police response

Officers ordered the man to drop the weapon. When he did not comply, one officer deployed a Taser in an attempt to subdue him. According to the police release, the man continued to advance toward officers after being tased, and a second officer then discharged his service weapon, striking the individual.

The man, who has not been publicly identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Airport officials said operations were not disrupted during the incident.

"I don’t believe it was a restricted area," airport spokesperson Vera Clay said at the scene, noting investigators would determine why the person was in that location and that officers had asked him to leave.

Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, CEO and Airport Director at Lambert, described the event in Terminal 1 as "a tragic event for our airport community." The officers involved have not been publicly identified. The shooting remains under investigation by the St. Louis County Police Department and other relevant authorities.

Authorities have not released information about the suspect’s identity or motive. Officials encouraged anyone with information to contact investigators as the inquiry continues.
