Byron Donalds’ Campaign to Park Video Truck Outside Kamala Harris’ Miami Book Event, Targeting Transgender Policy and Florida Democrats

Byron Donalds’ campaign plans to park a video truck outside Kamala Harris’ Miami book event, airing footage that criticizes Harris and labels Florida Democrats as "for they/them." The clip reportedly targets Jerry Demings and David Jolly and includes Harris’ 2019 comments on transgender inmate medical care. Campaign strategist Ryan Smith framed the stunt as opposition to national Democratic policies. Donalds has received public endorsements from Donald Trump and Elon Musk, and the move highlights escalating theatrics in the Florida governor’s race.

Byron Donalds’ Campaign to Park Video Truck Outside Kamala Harris’ Miami Book Event, Targeting Transgender Policy and Florida Democrats

Republican U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds’ campaign for Florida governor plans to station a video truck outside former Vice President Kamala Harris’ Miami book event. The campaign says the truck will display footage and graphics criticizing Harris and labeling Florida Democrats as "for they/them," while promoting Donalds as a candidate who will prioritize everyday Floridians.

The video reportedly combines images of Harris with rainbow pride flags and photos of two Florida gubernatorial candidates — Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings and former U.S. Rep. David Jolly — who is running in the Democratic primary after previously serving in Congress as a Republican. It also includes excerpts from Harris’ 2019 remarks about access to medical care for transgender inmates in California.

"Kamala Harris and Joe Biden’s policies devastated families with crushing inflation, open borders, and a radical agenda that weakened our country. Now, Jerry Demings and David Jolly are fighting to bear the torch for the Democrats and their radical policies in Florida," said Ryan Smith, chief strategist for Donalds’ gubernatorial campaign. "Kamala Harris and Florida Democrats are for they/them. Byron Donalds is for you!"

Donalds launched his gubernatorial bid earlier this year. He has received public endorsements from former President Donald Trump and, more recently, a post of support on X from entrepreneur Elon Musk. Harris, who wrote about her 2024 presidential campaign in a book titled 107 Days, is scheduled to appear in Miami on Thursday night.

The planned deployment of a video truck outside a political event is an example of the heightened, theatrical tactics increasingly common in this year’s Florida gubernatorial contest. Supporters say such stunts drive home campaign messages; critics argue they increase polarization and distract from substantive debate.

What to watch: whether the truck draws significant attention at the Miami event, how attendees and local officials respond, and whether the move influences the tone of the Florida gubernatorial race as it progresses.
