Renan Romero Rezende, a 32-year-old Brazilian motorcycle influencer known online as "Gigante du Grau," was shot and killed on Nov. 19 while dropping off two motorcycles to be painted in Ribeirão Preto, a city in southeast Brazil.
Friends confirmed Rezende's death the following day with posts to his Instagram Stories and announced a memorial service. Rezende, who built a large following by posting daring motorcycle stunts and tricks, had uploaded Instagram Stories in the hours before the incident that included footage of the motorcycles he was taking for painting.
Alleged Shooting
Local reports say two men in a car approached Rezende and fired multiple shots, killing him at the scene. Video of the encounter was reportedly obtained by local media outlets. Investigators are treating the case as a homicide while they work to verify the circumstances and identify suspects.
Police Response
Military Police Lieutenant Lucas Aguiar said the suspects have not yet been identified but that investigators are using descriptions of the vehicle the attackers left in to help locate them.
"Whether it's related to the fact that he was an influencer, or to the activity he carried out, we can't say yet," Lieutenant Aguiar said. "It depends on the investigation, which will now be conducted by the Civil Police, who will investigate whether he actually had any connection or involvement with any illegal activity."
Reaction and Memorial
Rezende had more than 169,000 followers on Instagram, where he regularly posted videos of stunts and motorcycle content. Friends, fellow riders and event organizers shared condolences on social media. One friend posted on Rezende's account: "Nobody deserves to have gone through this, but let's not let it go unnoticed." Organizers of a major Brazilian motorcycle festival remembered him for his "huge heart" and extended sympathy to his family and friends.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Rezende's death. The motorcycling community and his followers remain in mourning as details emerge.
