Authorities say 40-year-old Paul Flores went to a neighbor's home before 6 a.m. to complain about loud music and the party. Police allege Flores and 29-year-old Edward Trejo argued in the home's front yard and that the disagreement escalated, resulting in Flores allegedly firing multiple shots.
Trejo was struck several times, including in the neck, and was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead, officials told KSAT, WOAI and KENS. Flores was arrested and booked on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to jail records cited by the outlets. Local reports identified the gathering as a Christmas party. In the wake of Trejo’s death, hundreds of friends and family members gathered for a balloon release to honor him. Friends and relatives described Trejo as warm and loyal.
“He had a big heart, you know. He loved everybody,” Vanessa Fernandez told KSAT. “He did a lot for us. He always had our back, he always had anybody’s back,” added Christian Trejo, Edward’s twin brother.
A GoFundMe established to assist Trejo’s family had raised nearly $30,000 at the time of reporting. The campaign organizer said the family’s hearts were "shattered" by the sudden loss and praised Edward’s laughter, kindness and love.
