The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office says 45-year-old Pablo Criollo was fatally struck by an arrow on a Kearny, N.J. sidewalk on Dec. 20; surveillance video obtained by NBC News captured the moment. Investigators identified 44-year-old Oscar Feijoo as a person of interest; a confrontation at his home escalated into a SWAT standoff and multiple fires before he surrendered the next day. Feijoo faces charges including murder and aggravated arson. A GoFundMe organized by Criollo's family has raised over $37,000 for funeral and related expenses.

Pablo Criollo, 45, was fatally struck by an arrow while walking on a sidewalk in Kearny, New Jersey, on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 20, prosecutors said. Surveillance footage obtained by NBC News captured the moment and includes the sound of a bow snapping just before Criollo reacts in pain.

Investigation and Arrest

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office identified 44-year-old Oscar Feijoo as a person of interest. When investigators went to Feijoo's Kearny home to question him, the encounter escalated into an hours‑long standoff with a SWAT team the following day. Authorities say Feijoo barricaded himself inside the residence and set multiple fires.

After the fires were extinguished, Feijoo emerged reportedly "armed with knives" and surrendered to officers shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21. He has been charged with murder, aggravated arson and weapons offenses; prosecutors said additional charges are expected. It was not immediately clear whether Feijoo had entered a plea or retained an attorney.

Family Reaction and Support

At a vigil, Criollo's wife, Paula Amez, speaking in Spanish, said their young daughter asks each morning when her father will come home. Amez said Criollo was on his way home for dinner when the attack occurred.

Criollo's stepdaughter, Azul, started a GoFundMe to help cover funeral and related expenses. The fundraiser notes Criollo emigrated from Ecuador at age 16 and had been her mother’s partner for about a decade, providing for the family. As of Dec. 24 the campaign had raised more than $37,000 toward a $20,000 goal.

Ongoing Inquiry

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office continues to investigate the incident and the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting with a bow and arrow. Law enforcement and local officials are reviewing surveillance footage and witness accounts as part of the probe.
