Authorities are examining video, maintenance records and crew reports to determine the cause.

Rossiya Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Engine Panel Detaches Mid‑Flight

A Rossiya Airlines passenger aircraft made an emergency landing at Khabarovsk Airport on the morning of Nov. 15 after video and passenger accounts indicated parts of the plane's exterior detached during flight.

According to a statement posted by the Khabarovsk Transport Prosecutor's Office on Telegram, the aircraft was en route from Vladivostok to Blagoveshchensk carrying 90 passengers and landed at around 09:00 local time due to a technical malfunction.

Footage circulated on social media appears to show an engine cowling (the removable covering of an engine) missing, and other images suggest fragments came off the airframe. A passenger quoted in social posts said the plane "suffered a skin tear." Emergency services, including fire crews and an ambulance, were on the runway when the aircraft touched down. Authorities reported no injuries on board.

The Investigative Committee has opened a preliminary probe into possible violations of air transport safety regulations. Law enforcement and transport investigators said they will assess the circumstances and causes of the incident and make a procedural decision based on the results.

The incident comes amid broader concerns raised by Russia's aviation regulator about fleet challenges. Dmitry Yadrov of the Federal Air Transport Agency has warned that Russia's civil aviation sector could face significant aircraft and helicopter losses by 2030 and noted ongoing engine issues that may affect certain Sukhoi Superjet aircraft.

Investigators continue to review video evidence, maintenance records and crew reports to determine whether the event resulted from mechanical failure, maintenance shortcomings or other causes. Passengers on the route were offered a replacement aircraft or alternative arrangements as authorities conduct their inquiry.
