GameStop Announces First-Ever "Trade Anything Day" — What to Know Before You Go

GameStop will hold its first-ever Trade Anything Day on Saturday, Dec. 6, allowing customers to trade one item that fits inside a 20 x 20 x 20 inch box for store credit. The company has not yet detailed how trade-in values will be determined or whether loyalty members will receive different credit. Handmade crafts and taxidermy are allowed if they meet the size limit, but a long list of hazardous materials, many electronics, gift cards and other items are banned. Store employees may refuse any trade, and GameStop will provide further guidance before the event.

GameStop announces first-ever "Trade Anything Day"

GameStop is holding a one-day promotion called Trade Anything Day on Saturday, Dec. 6, inviting customers to bring in a single item to exchange for store credit. The promotion is a playful extension of the retailer's long-running trade-in program, but it comes with a clear size limit and several exclusions.

How it works

When: Saturday, Dec. 6.
What you can trade: One item per person that fits inside a 20 x 20 x 20 inch box.
What you get: Store credit for accepted items. GameStop has not yet published the valuation method or whether members of its GameStop Pro loyalty program will receive different credit amounts; the company says it will release guidance before the event.

What's allowed (examples)

Almost anything that fits the size limit can be considered — that includes used games and consoles, handmade crafts (crochet, knitting, sculptures), and even taxidermy pieces, provided they meet the size requirement and local laws.

Strict exclusions

GameStop has published a list of items it will not accept under any circumstances. The following are explicitly prohibited:

  • Hazardous waste, hazardous materials, chemicals or liquids
  • Lithium-ion batteries or devices that contain lithium-ion batteries
  • Weapons and ammunition
  • Animals, dead or alive (taxidermied animals are allowed)
  • Alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, or pharmaceutical products
  • Computers (except certain MacBooks GameStop already accepts for trade)
  • Other machines such as scanners, printers, 3D printers, label printers or digital picture frames
  • Small electronic devices like portable music players, VCRs, DVD players, DVRs, digital converter boxes, cable or satellite receivers, and projectors
  • Gift cards
  • Sexual or explicit items
  • Anything resembling body parts

Note: Store employees retain the right to refuse any item at their discretion.

What to do before you go

If you plan to participate, watch GameStop's official channels for valuation details and any additional rules or store-specific guidance released before Dec. 6. Bring only one properly sized item, and be prepared for staff to decline items that present safety, legal, or quality concerns.
