House Democrats Release Epstein Emails Saying Trump 'Knew About the Girls,' Officials Say

House Oversight Committee Democrats released more than 20,000 pages of records from Jeffrey Epstein's estate that include emails referencing President Trump. The documents include a 2011 message saying Trump 'spent hours at my house' with a redacted victim and a 2019 note in which Epstein wrote that Trump 'knew about the girls.' The White House denies wrongdoing and accuses Democrats of selective leaks, while lawmakers press for fuller access to Epstein-related files. Many names and details are redacted and the emails have not been independently authenticated.

Washington — House Oversight Committee Democrats on Wednesday released thousands of pages of records from Jeffrey Epstein's estate that include emails referencing President Donald Trump and his ties to people in Epstein's circle.

What the documents show

The newly disclosed material includes a 2011 email from Epstein to his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell stating that Mr. Trump 'spent hours at my house' with a redacted victim. A separate 2019 message, apparently from Epstein to author Michael Wolff, reads in part that 'Of course he knew about the girls as he asked ghislaine to stop.' Many names in the release are redacted.

In an April 2, 2011 exchange, Epstein wrote: 'i want you to realize that that dog that hasn't barked is Trump. [Victim 1] spent hours at my house with him ,, he has never once been mentioned.' Maxwell replied: 'I have been thinking about that…'

Context and caveats

The Oversight Committee said Epstein's estate provided more than 23,000 documents; the committee released over 20,000 pages on Wednesday that include emails, court filings, deposition transcripts and press clippings. Committee Republicans criticized the release as selective and accused Democrats of 'cherry-picking' material to generate headlines. CBS News and other outlets said they had not independently authenticated the emails.

Responses and reactions

The White House reiterated that Mr. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and said he severed ties with Epstein years ago. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt accused Democrats of selectively leaking material to 'create a fake narrative' and said the victim referenced in the emails is the late Virginia Giuffre—who, the statement added, never accused Mr. Trump of criminal conduct. Giuffre died by suicide in April; in her memoir she described meeting Mr. Trump once and said he 'couldn't have been friendlier.'

Author Michael Wolff confirmed via Instagram that he exchanged emails with Epstein and suggested the correspondence could help establish links between Epstein and Mr. Trump. Wolff also told the Daily Beast there are recorded conversations in which Epstein discussed Mr. Trump.

White House spokesman Steven Cheung dismissed Wolff's comments as fabrications. Representative Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee, urged the Justice Department to release its Epstein files 'immediately,' saying the committee 'will not stop until we get justice for the victims.'

Background

Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted in 2021 of conspiring with Epstein in a sex-trafficking operation and is serving a 20-year sentence. Epstein reached a controversial nonprosecution agreement in Florida in 2008 and pleaded guilty to state prostitution charges. He died by suicide in a Manhattan jail while awaiting federal trial in 2019.

Congress is pressing for broader access to investigative records. Democrats say newly sworn-in Rep. Adelita Grijalva's arrival enabled a discharge petition to compel a floor vote on a measure to force the Justice Department to release all files related to Epstein; Speaker Mike Johnson said the matter would be taken up next week.

What remains outstanding

The documents raise questions that investigators and the White House will face as review continues, but the release alone does not constitute proof of criminal conduct by Mr. Trump. Many details remain redacted or unverified; journalists and lawmakers continue to review the trove for additional context and corroboration.
