Six arrested after alleged illegal fox‑hunting in Ambleside

Six men have been arrested in Cumbria following an alleged illegal fox‑hunting incident at a Coniston Foxhounds meet in Ambleside on 8 November. The arrests were made on Thursday as part of an ongoing police investigation.

All six remain in custody on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal. One of the men was also arrested on suspicion of possessing an unlawful firearm. Officers have seized three vehicles and said further arrests are planned as enquiries continue.

Chief Inspector Lee Skelton said the force was aware of a video circulating online and understood "the strength of feeling this has caused within some of our communities."

"We take allegations of wildlife crime extremely seriously," he added.

Cumbria Police confirmed they are working with the UK National Wildlife Crime Unit and have appealed for anyone with information to contact police. The investigation remains ongoing.
