IDF says it killed a suspected militant after a 'yellow line' breach in Gaza
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Tuesday that its troops "eliminated a terrorist" after an individual the military described as a militant crossed the "yellow line" that marks the boundary of the area under Israeli control in southern Gaza. The IDF called the incident "another ceasefire violation."
In a post on X, the army said the person was identified while approaching IDF troops and was assessed to pose an immediate threat, which prompted the use of force. The military emphasized that it must remain deployed under the terms of the ceasefire to remove any immediate threats to the State of Israel.
"IDF troops eliminated a terrorist who was identified crossing the yellow line and approaching IDF troops in southern Gaza, which posed an immediate threat to them," the IDF wrote.
The military said this was the second such incident reported in two days since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect on Oct. 10. The day before, the IDF reported that two people were identified crossing the yellow line and were struck after being judged to endanger Israeli forces.
Brig. Gen. (res.) Amir Avivi, founder and chairman of the Israel Defense and Security Forum (IDSF), told Fox News Digital that Israeli forces had controlled nearly 80% of the Gaza Strip before pulling back to the designated "yellow line." According to Avivi, that repositioning helped persuade Hamas to agree to the ceasefire while leaving Israel with control of roughly 53% of the Gaza Strip, including the Philadelphi Corridor, most of Rafah, about half of Khan Younis and sections of northern Gaza.
Avivi added that Israel retains higher ground overlooking the coastal area, which he said helps protect nearby Israeli towns, and that efforts to smuggle weapons through the Egyptian border have been significantly curtailed.
The IDF framed the strikes as defensive measures to neutralize immediate threats in accordance with the ceasefire terms. Fox News’ Amelie Botbol contributed to this report.
