Created under an August 2025 executive order to make interactions with government "more useful, effective, and respectful of their time," the site aims to let users ask questions in plain language, sign in securely, and, where possible, complete transactions without navigating multiple agency websites.
AI Backing and Live Demonstration
U.S. Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia told CNBC that America.gov uses artificial intelligence from Google’s Gemini and Elon Musk’s Grok. During the site’s launch, the Associated Press reported that the portal adjusted its response while former President Donald Trump spoke at the event. Reporters from PEOPLE queried the chatbot three separate times about who won the 2020 election and received substantively identical replies each time.

Donald Trump has long disputed the certified 2020 result and repeatedly promoted unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud — allegations that helped motivate the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Subsequent legal actions tied to efforts to overturn the 2020 outcome have followed.
