Dr. Rachel Danis described the moment she first learned that Patrick Clancy was the father of three children who had died. In an interview with 60 Minutes, she said she noticed a photograph on Patrick’s phone and asked, "Who are those cuties?"
When Patrick told her the children were his and that they had died, Danis said she was stunned. "I know I can't fix — I can't bring his kids back," she told the program, adding that she has been learning how to support Patrick while he continues to grieve.
What Happened
In January 2023, Patrick discovered his three children — Cora (5), Dawson (3) and eight-month-old Callan — had been strangled with exercise bands after returning from an errand. He found Lindsay Clancy critically injured in the backyard in what appeared to be a suicide attempt, called 911, and, while still on the phone with a dispatcher, entered their Duxbury, Massachusetts home and located the children in the basement.
Trial And Legal Status
Lindsay Clancy was charged with murder and does not dispute that she killed the children before jumping from a second-story window. She has pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility. Her attorney, Kevin Reddington, argued the defense of postpartum psychosis and said medical providers had previously failed her when she sought help.
The high-profile trial ended in a mistrial after jurors told Judge William Sullivan they could not reach a unanimous verdict. Several jurors later said the panel was split 11-1 in favor of acquittal by reason of lack of criminal responsibility. A follow-up court date is scheduled for Sept. 29.
Personal Life
Danis and Patrick married in April and live together in New York City. The couple met while running in Central Park and confirmed in the interview that they are expecting their first child together — when asked if they were "starting a family," Patrick replied, "Yes."
Patrick has said he still speaks to his children who died. "I ask them for help, all the time," he told the program.
