Canadian Farmer Rushes In, Kicks Off Cougar To Save Her Nigerian Dwarf Goat

Harrowing security-camera footage from a British Columbia farm captures the moment owner Gina Moore sprang into action to rescue one of her Nigerian dwarf goats from a cougar attack. The clip opens on several goats running through a barn before a cougar appears, its jaws and forelegs wrapped around one of the animals as it struggles and screams.

How It Happened

Seconds after the attack begins, Moore charges into the barn, shouts at the big cat to scare it off and delivers a single, forceful kick that drives the cougar away from the goat. "I honestly was just running on adrenaline," Moore told Storyful. "I knew there was a chance that the cougar would turn on me so I’d better make whatever I did count."

Aftermath And Context

Moore said the goat survived the incident after she intervened. Her farm in British Columbia is home to geese, cows and four Nigerian dwarf goats she named Leo, Mick, Donnie and Raff after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. She bought them after losing a miniature horse to a black bear last year.

Moore warned that encroaching development is pushing predators such as bears and cougars closer to rural properties, increasing the risk to livestock. The video is a stark reminder of how quickly a routine day on a small farm can turn dangerous when large predators enter areas used for agriculture and animal husbandry.
