President Donald Trump on Saturday rejected reports that Florida Republican gubernatorial nominee Byron Donalds was distancing himself by removing references to the former president from his campaign website. In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump called the coverage a 'Fake Story' and reiterated his strong, early endorsement of Donalds.
News outlets reported that a recent homepage redesign removed at least eight references to Trump. An earlier version of the page described Donalds as a 'Trump-endorsed Proven Conservative Fighter,' featured a photograph of Donalds and his wife with Trump, and listed 'Enact the Trump Agenda' among campaign priorities. Trump’s endorsement, however, remains elsewhere on the site — including a dedicated endorsements page and a rotating module on the homepage.
Donalds pushed back on suggestions that the edits signaled a break with Trump, saying the campaign had been planning the overhaul for about two months and that the new layout was intended to emphasize his policy proposals for Florida.
Trump said Donalds quickly countered the reports and highlighted the endorsement. He also announced that two rallies for Donalds are scheduled in Florida and predicted both will be 'SOLD OUT!'
'This was a Fake Story, with no sources, and the only justification for it is they want to stop my ever upward momentum,' Trump wrote. He also argued that news organizations he deems dishonest should face consequences, including being barred from White House premises and the press room because they are 'CORRUPT and DISHONEST!'
Trump named several outlets in his post, including USA Today, CNN, The Washington Post, The Guardian, Newsweek, The New York Times, ABC, NBC, and Forbes. He closed by reaffirming his 'Complete and Total Endorsement' of Donalds and attacking Democrat David Jolly, Donalds' general-election opponent, with partisan language.
Byron Donalds is the Republican nominee for governor of Florida. He is being challenged by Democrat David Jolly, a former Republican congressman who left the GOP in 2018 and switched to the Democratic Party in 2025.
