Republican Caller on C-SPAN Apologizes for Backing Trump After Racist Post: "This Is Not a Decent Man"

A registered Republican named John used a C-SPAN Washington Journal call-in to apologize for supporting President Donald Trump after the president shared a racist clip depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes. John called the image an "embarrassment" and accused Trump of lying, taking bribes, and acting racist. He also criticized immigration raids that he said traumatized children and families, lamented job losses in New Mexico, and urged young physicians to move to the state.

A registered Republican who identified himself as "John" called into C-SPAN's Washington Journal to publicly apologize for supporting President Donald Trump after the president shared a racist clip that portrayed former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as apes.

The program's host, Greta Brawner, introduced the segment as an open forum for public policy and current events and invited John from New Mexico to speak. John described his background—saying his father had served as president of the American Pipeliners Association—and that he had voted for and supported Trump in previous elections.

But the caller said he was calling to withdraw that support. He called the image of the Obamas "awful" and "an embarrassment to our country," and leveled a blunt critique at the president's behavior and ethics.

"All this man does is tell lies. He is not worthy of the presidency. He takes bribes blatantly. And now he's being a racist blatantly."

John also denounced recent immigration enforcement actions. He said authorities should be focused on deporting dangerous criminals rather than targeting children, storming schools, and frightening families. "All the children are scared," he said.

He continued: "This is not a decent man. This is not an honest man. He openly takes bribes. He's pathetic as a president." John apologized to the nation for having supported Trump and confirmed he had voted for him in "all three elections," saying he had been "sucked into the stupidity" of expecting job growth that never materialized in his state.

The caller shifted to local concerns before ending the call, warning that New Mexico has seen job losses and a shortage of primary care physicians. He noted that the state governor had passed measures to attract medical professionals and urged, "If you are a young physician, we want you in New Mexico. Come here. There's a great need for you."

The exchange was captured on C-SPAN; the original clip and a report on the call appeared on Mediaite.
