The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department released bodycam footage after a Feb. 3 confrontation that left 3-year-old Kentre Baker dead. Police say the child’s father, 28-year-old Quentin Baker, approached officers carrying Kentre and was allegedly pointing a gun; Quentin also died at the scene. Authorities say Kentre suffered three gunshot wounds to the head, two of which investigators allege were fired by his father; the origin of the third shot remains under investigation. Two officers fired during the encounter and have not been formally accused as the probe continues.
Bodycam Released After 3-Year-Old Fatally Shot During Las Vegas Standoff

Las Vegas police have released body-worn camera footage after a Feb. 3 confrontation in which a 3-year-old boy, identified as Kentre Baker, was fatally shot while being carried by his father outside a residence in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded after a 911 caller said 28-year-old Quentin Baker threatened to kill the caller and the child. At a Feb. 5 press briefing, LVMPD Assistant Sheriff Bryan Peterson said bodycam footage shows a man identified as Quentin walking toward officers with Kentre cradled in his left arm while allegedly pointing a gun at the child.
When ordered to drop the weapon, police say the man did not deny having a gun and instead said he wanted to see the child’s mother, identified by local reporting and a GoFundMe as Raneka Pate. Officers opened fire during the encounter; investigators have not yet released a definitive timeline of which shots were fired first.
Pate told dispatch during the call: If you don't tell them to call this s--- off, and if they try to come up these stairs, I'm blowing the child's brains out, and I'm blowing mine out. You won't have neither one of us.
Assistant Sheriff Peterson said Kentre sustained three gunshot wounds to the head. Authorities allege two of those shots were fired by Quentin Baker; investigators have not determined the origin of the third shot. Quentin died at the scene, and Kentre was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Officers and Investigation
The department identified the two officers involved as 39-year-old Jonthan Low, who fired three rounds, and 26-year-old Daymon O'Donnell, who fired two rounds. Neither officer has been formally accused of wrongdoing; the LVMPD and independent investigators continue to examine the evidence, including the released bodycam footage, to determine the exact sequence of events and which rounds struck the child.
Kentre's mother, Raneka Pate, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal she watched from a patrol car and disputes that Quentin had a firearm when he approached officers. "There was a plethora of bullets," she said, and later accused authorities of trying to "play damage control." Police maintain their account while the review continues.
