Jordan's Foreign Ministry confirmed that King Abdullah received an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to join a proposed "Board of Peace" for Gaza and that Amman is reviewing the documents under its domestic legal procedures. The board would oversee temporary governance in Gaza, which has been subject to a fragile ceasefire since October. Washington appears to be recruiting regional partners to assist with Gaza's interim administration and humanitarian relief.

CAIRO, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Jordan's Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that King Abdullah has received an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to join the proposed "Board of Peace" for Gaza.

The ministry added that it is reviewing the related documents as part of Jordan's internal legal and constitutional procedures and that no final decision has yet been announced.

The board is intended to supervise temporary governance in Gaza, which has been under a fragile ceasefire since October. Washington has reportedly been seeking regional partners to help coordinate Gaza's interim administration and the delivery of humanitarian relief.

Context

The proposal comes amid international efforts to stabilize Gaza after months of conflict and breakdowns in local administrations. Jordan's consideration of the invitation signals the kingdom's measured approach to any role that would affect governance and humanitarian operations in the territory.
