Lee County deputies found 29 dead dogs packed in plastic bags in a Beauregard backyard and about 24 more severely emaciated inside the home. Three residents — Curtis Dewayne Haralson, Patricia Ann Sims and Tiffany Ann Sims — were arrested and booked on Jan. 12. Lee County Animal Control seized the surviving dogs, and the sheriff’s office indicated the probe will likely lead to felony charges as the investigation continues.

Lee County, Alabama, authorities discovered a disturbing scene on Monday, Jan. 12, when deputies found 29 deceased dogs packaged in plastic bags in the backyard of a home in the Beauregard community. Investigators also located roughly 24 additional dogs inside the residence in severely emaciated condition.

The home, on the 8100 block of Lee Road 146, was occupied by Curtis Dewayne Haralson (63), Patricia Ann Sims (64) and Tiffany Ann Sims (27). A neighbor reported the condition of the animals to deputies at about 10:45 a.m., prompting the response, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

All three residents were arrested and booked into the Lee County Jail on Jan. 12. At the time of the office's statement, no formal charges had been filed; however, the sheriff’s office said the ongoing investigation "will more than likely result in felony charges for all three individuals."

Lee County Animal Control took custody of the surviving dogs. Officials said the animals’ ages ranged from puppies to adult dogs and that they were receiving appropriate care while the investigation continues.
