Trump Dismisses Gov. Walz’s Call to ‘Release the MRI Results,’ Sparks New Exchange Over Somali Community

President Trump pushed back at Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Sunday after Walz urged the president to "release the MRI results." The exchange occurred aboard Air Force One and follows social-media barbs: Walz pressed for disclosure on X, while Trump fired back on Truth Social and criticized Somali migrants in Minnesota. Walz called the remarks "demonizing" and highlighted the Somali community's contributions on NBC's "Meet the Press." The episode underscores rising tensions over health transparency and immigration rhetoric.

President Trump on Sunday pushed back at Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz after the governor urged him to “release the MRI results.” The brief exchange took place aboard Air Force One as reporters questioned the president.

A reporter told Trump, “Governor Walz asked you to release the MRI records.” Trump replied, “Governor Walz? You mean, the incompetent governor? So, if they want to release it, it’s okay with me to release it.”

What prompted the back-and-forth

The public spat follows a series of social-media posts over the Thanksgiving period. Walz had pressed Trump to disclose results of an MRI the president said he received in October during a visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Trump responded on his Truth Social platform with a post that attacked Walz and criticized Somali migrants in Minnesota. In that post Trump wrote:

“Hundreds of thousands of refugees from Somalia are completely taking over the once great State of Minnesota. Somalian gangs are roving the streets looking for ‘prey’ as our wonderful people stay locked in their apartments and houses hoping against hope that they will be left alone.”

Walz’s response

On NBC’s Meet the Press, Gov. Walz said Trump was “demonizing” the Somali community in Minnesota and urged a more constructive approach. “As far as demonizing our Somali community, maybe he could help us on some things,” Walz said, adding that members of the Somali community — educators, artists, doctors, lawyers and entrepreneurs — contribute to the state’s diversity and vitality.

Reporters noted Walz’s office was contacted for comment. The exchange highlights continuing tensions between the president and state leaders over transparency about his health and heated rhetoric about immigration and refugee communities.
