Conservative commentators sharply criticized Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Gov. Tim Walz after both questioned ICE’s account of a woman fatally shot by an ICE officer. Frey called ICE’s claim that the woman "weaponized her vehicle" "bullsh*t," while Walz urged followers on X not to trust the agency’s statement. Right-leaning figures including Megyn Kelly, Clay Travis and Benny Johnson shared video and accused the officials of irresponsible rhetoric, arguing footage shows the woman attempting to strike an officer. Authorities are still investigating the shooting and no final official determination has been released.
Conservatives Slam Minneapolis Mayor and Minnesota Governor Over ICE Shooting Remarks; Some Warn Of George Floyd–Style Unrest

Several high-profile conservative commentators sharply criticized Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) after the officials questioned an ICE account of a woman who was shot and killed by an ICE officer on Wednesday.
Mayor Frey dismissed ICE’s statement that the woman had "weaponized her vehicle" and attempted to run over an officer as "bullsh*t," while Gov. Walz advised his followers on X: "don’t believe this propaganda machine," referring to the agency’s public statement.
Right-Wing Backlash
Conservative figures pushed back forcefully, arguing that widely shared video footage shows the woman appeared to accelerate toward an ICE officer who stood in front of her SUV.
Megyn Kelly posted on X directly to Mayor Frey: "Try to control yourself. This cop almost got run over by this woman, who accelerated into him." Kelly included a clip of the incident and urged officials to wait for more facts before labeling the ICE account "propaganda." She called Walz's post "so irresponsible."
Outkick founder Clay Travis accused Frey of spreading an "inflammatory lie" by dismissing the shooting as justified. Pro-Trump commentator Benny Johnson shared a clip and called the footage "irrefutable," describing the act as "attempted murder." Johnson also linked the backlash to Walz’s previous description of ICE as "Trump’s modern-day Gestapo."
Dustin Gragesi, a Minnesota-based Republican strategist and Townhall.com columnist, likewise criticized Walz’s past rhetoric and suggested that such language contributed to heightened tensions. Fox News personalities Lawrence Jones and Will Cain questioned Frey’s comments; Cain warned the remarks risked provoking unrest similar to the George Floyd protests.
Context And Ongoing Process
Supporters of Frey and Walz say elected officials should be cautious and avoid inflaming a volatile situation until investigators release more information. Critics counter that circulating video supports ICE’s version of events. At present, authorities are investigating the shooting and a full official account and any subsequent legal findings have not yet been released.
