Real Estate Agent Lured to Fake Showing, Abducted and Murdered — Lead Defendant Now Seeks Another Trial

Case overview

On Dec. 31, 2019, 28-year-old real estate agent Monique Baugh was lured to a Maple Grove, Minnesota, residence under the pretense of a property showing. Prosecutors say the viewing was a setup arranged by Lyndon Akeem Wiggins and Elsa Segura. Once Baugh arrived, two men abducted her, loaded her into a U‑Haul and later shot her. Her body was found in an alley with her hands bound with duct tape.

Attack on companion

The assailants then drove to the home of Baugh’s boyfriend and fired shots there. He survived and told investigators he could not identify the shooters, although he named Wiggins as someone he believed might want to harm him.

Criminal proceedings and convictions

The prosecution has described the incident as a coordinated plan to lure and attack the victim and her companion. Two co-defendants, Cedric Berry and Berry Davis, were convicted in 2021 of charges that included aiding and abetting first‑degree premeditated murder, aiding and abetting first‑degree attempted murder, and aiding and abetting kidnapping; both were later sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.

Elsa Segura, who authorities reported was dating Wiggins at the time, pleaded guilty in 2024 to kidnapping to commit great bodily harm and received a 240‑month prison sentence.

Lead defendant’s trials and current status

Lyndon Akeem Wiggins was first convicted in 2021 in connection with Baugh’s murder. That conviction was overturned by the Minnesota Supreme Court in 2024 due to incorrect jury instructions. Following a subsequent retrial, a Hennepin County jury again found Wiggins guilty. On the day he was scheduled to be sentenced, Wiggins’s attorney filed a motion seeking another trial, and Wiggins is pursuing further review of his convictions and sentence.

Ongoing impact

The case has stretched across multiple trials and appeals and remains the subject of continued legal activity. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has confirmed the recent convictions and the complex procedural history dating back to the night of the attack.
