Pregnant 20-Year-Old Killed in Alleged 100+ mph Las Vegas Pileup; Boyfriend Charged with Murder

A violent multi-vehicle collision in northwest Las Vegas on Nov. 18 left two people dead and multiple others injured after a car allegedly driven at more than 100 mph struck a line of stopped vehicles at a red light.

The victims have been identified as 20-year-old Adilene Duran, who was pregnant, and 38-year-old Edward Garcia. According to investigators, the crash occurred at the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard when a silver 2011 Infiniti G37 failed to slow for stopped traffic and plowed into a row of waiting cars, setting off a chain-reaction crash that ultimately involved 12 vehicles.

Allegations and criminal charges

Law enforcement says the Infiniti, reportedly driven by 19-year-old Jose Gutierrez, was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed before striking the rear of another vehicle, which then spun into other cars and burst into flames. Gutierrez was taken into custody after the collision and sustained serious injuries.

Clark County Jail records show Gutierrez is being held without bond and currently faces upgraded charges including two counts of open (first-degree) murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of battery with the use of a deadly weapon. He was initially charged with multiple counts of reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm; authorities elevated the charges as the investigation progressed. A court date is set for Jan. 6, 2026.

Impact and ongoing investigation

Police say witnesses reported the Infiniti was traveling at more than 100 mph and that the signal was red and clearly visible to approaching vehicles. Investigators noted the vehicle failed to slow as it approached stopped traffic, and they are exploring possible impairment as a factor in the collision.

According to reports, Duran was completely ejected from a vehicle during the crash. Two other people were listed in critical condition. The Infiniti involved was registered to Duran's mother.

“Please pray for her to be in peace,” reads a fundraiser posted to assist Duran’s family with medical and funeral expenses. “Her family is devastated.”

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and to gather evidence that will be used in the pending criminal case.
