One Dead, Several Injured After Suspected Drunk Driver Plows Into Kayenta Christmas Parade Crowd

A suspected drunk driver drove into bystanders waiting for the Kayenta Light Parade in Kayenta, Arizona, killing one person and injuring several others.

Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren said three people were struck, including a child in critical condition and a pregnant woman; the driver was arrested at the scene.

Authorities have not publicly identified the suspect and are investigating whether alcohol was a factor; local outlets reporting include the Associated Press, AZFamily and The Arizona Republic.

Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren, in a statement dated Dec. 22, said that "three people were struck by a vehicle," and that the victims included "a young person in critical condition and a pregnant woman." “My heart is heavy after learning of the tragic incident at the Kayenta Light Parade,” Nygren said. “This is heartbreaking during a season meant for family, joy, and togetherness, and I urge everyone to take steps to prevent drinking and driving and to look out for one another.”
