Turkey Detains Three Defence Executives in Alleged Spy Probe

Turkish prosecutors have detained three senior executives from defence companies on suspicion of spying for foreign powers, following an operation on 25 November 2025 that targeted four people linked to the alleged plot.

The Istanbul public prosecutor's office said three suspects were arrested during the sweep and that an arrest warrant was issued for the fourth after authorities determined that person was abroad. Officials described the suspects as holding executive roles in companies deemed critical to Turkey's defence sector.

Prosecutors allege the defendants attempted to collect and pass on 'biographical' information about company employees to foreign states. An initial version of the prosecutor's statement named the United Arab Emirates' intelligence services, but that reference was removed in a later public statement.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey's defence exports rose 29 percent to $7.15 billion in 2024, a surge he attributed in part to the international success of Turkish military drones. Authorities have not publicly disclosed further details about the alleged recipients of the information or the specific companies involved.

Investigations are ongoing. Prosecutors said they will provide further updates as the probe progresses and as legal proceedings develop.
