Two-Thirds of MAGA Republicans Back Possible U.S. Action in Venezuela, Poll Finds

New polling finds about two-thirds of MAGA Republicans support possible U.S. military action in Venezuela, compared with roughly one-third of Americans overall. MAGA respondents show strong deference to the president while still wanting explanations for military decisions and overwhelmingly approve his handling of immigration (97%). Republicans tend to view "America First" as selective engagement in U.S. interests, and foreign policy ranks low as the primary criterion for evaluating the president. The findings come from a YouGov survey of 2,489 U.S. adults (Nov. 19–21, 2025); margin of error ±2.4 points.

Two-Thirds of MAGA Republicans Back Possible U.S. Action in Venezuela, Poll Finds

Recent national polling shows that MAGA-aligned Republicans are substantially more likely than other voters to support possible U.S. military action in Venezuela. About two-thirds of MAGA respondents expressed support — far higher than the roughly one-third of Americans overall who say the same.

Key findings

Higher MAGA support: Roughly two-thirds of MAGA Republicans back potential U.S. intervention in Venezuela, compared with about one-third of the broader public.

Deference but demand for explanation: Most MAGA supporters say the president should explain decisions about military action, yet they are also more inclined than other groups to defer to the president’s judgment and accept action without a full explanation.

Perceived benefits and skepticism: Many Republicans — especially MAGA respondents — believe military action could reduce the flow of drugs into the U.S. By contrast, most Americans remain skeptical that military steps would substantially cut drug trafficking. Even so, neither MAGA voters nor the public generally view Venezuela as a top national-security threat.

Context and broader views

MAGA Republicans have shown consistent loyalty to former President Trump across a range of issues, including foreign policy. For example, more than nine in 10 MAGA respondents approved of U.S. strikes on Iran this past June, a rate that exceeded overall Republican backing.

The poll also sheds light on what "America First" means to many Republicans: selective international engagement. Rather than implying isolation, many GOP voters interpret the label to mean the United States should act abroad when it serves U.S. interests.

Foreign policy is not the primary lens by which most Republicans evaluate the president — only about 5% name international or foreign policy as their main evaluation criterion. For MAGA voters, the top concerns are immigration and deportation, cited by roughly twice as many respondents as those who point to the economy or inflation. MAGA Republicans give the president exceptionally high marks on immigration, with 97% approval reported in the survey.

Survey methodology

This analysis is based on a YouGov survey of 2,489 U.S. adults interviewed between November 19 and 21, 2025. The sample was weighted to reflect the adult population by gender, age, race and education using U.S. Census benchmarks and was adjusted for the 2024 presidential vote. The margin of error for the full sample is ±2.4 percentage points.
