A Remarkable Coincidence: Two Baby Boys Named Myles/Miles Born 11 Minutes Apart at the Same Florida Hospital

On Oct. 27 at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, two unrelated families welcomed baby boys who share a phonetically identical name — arriving just 11 minutes and a few feet apart in a moment staff called unforgettable.

Myles Retzer of Riverview was born at 12:43 p.m., weighing 6 lbs., 14 oz. and measuring 20 inches. Eleven minutes later, at 12:54 p.m., Miles Bartz of Plant City arrived, weighing 4 lbs., 11 oz. and measuring 18.5 inches.

The hospital reported that both infants were born healthy and that the Retzer and Bartz families were able to meet before discharge. Staff described the meeting as heartwarming and said the coincidence was a special moment for everyone involved.

“In all my years, I can’t recall witnessing two babies with the same name born so close together,” said Dr. Emily Richter, an obstetrician at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital. “Birth stories are always memorable, but this is one these families and our team won’t forget.”
“Watching the families meet and seeing the joy and surprise in their faces truly made our day,” said Lauren Youngberg, nurse manager for Women’s Services. “This is a moment we will remember and treasure — who knows, maybe these boys will grow up together or even graduate side-by-side one day.”

The unusual timing and matching names made the afternoon particularly memorable for parents and staff alike, turning a routine day at the hospital into a unique story the families will likely share for years.
