Christmas Morning Miracle: Stoughton Officers Deliver Baby Boy in Backseat of Car

Two Stoughton, Massachusetts, police officers helped deliver a newborn in the backseat of a car on Christmas morning, an act the Stoughton Police Department called a "Christmas miracle." Sgt. Albert Medeiros and Officer Daisy Guzman were dispatched to Glen Echo Boulevard at 6:12 a.m. on Dec. 25 after a report of a woman in active labor inside a vehicle.
What Happened
When Sgt. Medeiros arrived he was waved down by a man and rushed to the vehicle, hearing loud screams as he approached. "I saw a male with his hands in the air, trying to flag me down," Medeiros recalled. He saw the baby crowning and quickly realized the mother would not reach the hospital in time.
Officer Guzman arrived shortly after and coached the laboring woman through contractions, offering encouragement when the mother felt she could not continue. Just five minutes after the initial dispatch—at 6:17 a.m.—a healthy baby boy was born in the backseat.
Immediate Care
Medeiros cleared the infant's airway, placed him on his mother's chest and rubbed his back until he cried. "As soon as the baby started crying, that level of anxiety just dropped quite a bit because at least at that point, we knew the baby was breathing," Medeiros said.
Officer Guzman: "I was just trying to do my best as I would want someone to do for me in that moment. She definitely gave it her all."
The newborn was given the name Orlando. The Stoughton Fire Department soon arrived and transported mother and baby by ambulance to the hospital, where both were reported to be doing well.
Community Response
Neighbors who witnessed the emergency delivery praised the officers' quick, calm response. Allan Eliacin told WHDH, "They did a great job with the delivering. I know that’s mainly not their specialty, but we’ve got to give them props." Kim Leonard said the event was a heartening reminder of the spirit of the season: "It makes me feel excited... it’s about the miracles and the coming together and helping one another."
The Stoughton Police Department shared the account and photos on Facebook, praising Sgt. Medeiros and Officer Guzman for their teamwork, compassion and rapid action during what they called a "once-in-a-lifetime Christmas miracle." The department extended congratulations to the new mother and family and welcomed baby Orlando to the world.
