Sunday Shows Preview: Trump Intensifies Attacks on Marjorie Taylor Greene and Democrats; Europe Reviews Contested Ukraine Peace Plan

Donald Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s feud intensified after Greene announced she will resign in January amid a months-long split that included her push for DOJ documents on Jeffrey Epstein and Trump's public attacks. A video of Democrats urging troops to resist alleged unlawful orders prompted harsh condemnation from Trump and raised safety concerns for congressional offices. Separately, European leaders reviewed a contentious 28-point U.S.-Russia peace outline for Ukraine that would cede parts of the Donbas and reduce Ukraine’s military; Kyiv and pro-Ukraine Republicans criticized the plan. Weekend talk shows will feature key participants responding to these developments.

The long-running conflict between Donald Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) escalated Friday after Greene announced she will resign from Congress in January. The widening rift — which includes a recent fight over release of Department of Justice files related to Jeffrey Epstein — is expected to be a focal point on this weekend’s political talk shows.

Greene and Trump: From allies to adversaries

Once a close Trump ally, Greene has become increasingly critical of the party and the administration in recent months. Her disagreements came to a head during the government shutdown and intensified after she joined three House Republicans in forcing a vote on a resolution directing the DOJ to release documents related to Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump publicly blasted Greene on social media, calling her a "traitor" and "a disgrace to our GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY!" even as he later signed the bill that cleared both chambers. The enacted resolution gave the DOJ 30 days to disclose documents and files, with provisions allowing the redaction of victims' names and the identities of individuals under investigation. Greene said she will remain in Congress through Jan. 5 and defended her decision to step down, saying she could not endure what she called "a hurtful and hateful primary" backed by Trump.

Video of Democrats urging troops to resist and the fallout

Separately, a video featuring six Democrats with military or intelligence backgrounds urging troops to refuse what they deemed unlawful orders prompted a fierce response from Trump, who called the video "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!!" on his social platform. Democratic leaders condemned the language as "violent and unhinged," and at least one member featured in the video reported the president's posts to Capitol Police after congressional offices received a surge of threatening communications.

Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) and Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.) are among those connected to the video and are scheduled to appear on Sunday programs to discuss the clip and the wider implications for civil discourse and security.

Contested 28-point Ukraine peace outline draws scrutiny

European leaders reviewed a 28-point peace outline reportedly negotiated quietly between U.S. and Russian officials that would require Ukraine to cede portions of the eastern Donbas region and significantly shrink its military. The Council of the European Union offered cautious praise but said the plan needs "additional work." Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that crimes against people and nations must not be rewarded or forgiven.

Pro-Ukraine Republicans pushed back. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) said the proposal "has problems" and argued Ukraine should not be forced to surrender territory to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) compared the idea to the 1938 Munich Agreement, citing concerns about appeasement. Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S. Olga Stefanishyna is set to address the proposal on Sunday and outline Kyiv's perspective on potential next steps.

Trump meets New York City mayor-elect

On Friday, Trump met with New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani (D) in the Oval Office. Though he has criticized Mamdani in the past, Trump offered public praise at the meeting, saying he hoped Mamdani would be "a really great mayor" and pledged cooperation to help improve the city.

“I think you’re going to have, hopefully, a really great mayor. The better he does, the happier I am. There’s no difference in party, there’s no difference in anything,” Trump said.
