Ceasefire Breach: Israel Conducts Airstrikes in Gaza After Reported Incursion

Israel's military said on Saturday it carried out airstrikes against Hamas operatives in Gaza after reporting that an armed individual crossed a ceasefire "yellow line" and fired at Israeli soldiers. The strikes mark the latest violation of the ceasefire that took effect on Oct. 10, according to statements from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Gaza health authorities.

The IDF said the person used an aid route to cross the line established by last month's agreement. The military said the individual fired at troops and was killed; no IDF injuries were reported. In response, the IDF said it targeted what it described as "Hamas terror targets" across the Gaza Strip.

Separately, the military reported that its forces in the Rafah area killed three militants and that two others were killed after separate incidents in northern Gaza, in which four people reportedly crossed into Israeli-held areas and advanced toward soldiers.

Hamas condemned the strikes as a "blatant violation" of the ceasefire, accused Israel of altering the deal's terms and urged the United States to press Israel to comply with the agreement.

Gaza health authorities reported at least 14 people killed and 45 wounded in the strikes, including children. Medical officials named several incidents with civilian casualties: Rami Mhanna, managing director of Shifa Hospital, said a strike on a vehicle in Gaza City's Rimal neighborhood killed seven people and wounded 18, most of whom were taken to Shifa. Mohamed Abu Selmiya, Shifa's director, said many of the wounded were children.

Al-Awda Hospital reported a strike on a house near its compound in central Gaza that killed at least three people and wounded 11. Health officials said another strike in the Nuseirat camp killed a child and wounded 16. Al-Aqsa Hospital reported that a strike on a home in Deir al-Balah killed three people, including a woman.

The IDF said its Southern Command remains deployed in accordance with the ceasefire arrangement and that troops "will continue to operate to remove any immediate threat." The situation remains tense, with both sides trading accusations as international mediators watch for new developments.
