More than 1,000 ninth-grade students from across Northern California will attend the 12th annual Planting Seeds of Opportunity STEM Career Day, organized by the Shasta County Office of Education (SCOE). This year’s program emphasizes medical technologies and is designed to introduce students to real-world career pathways in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
What to expect
Students will hear presentations from working STEM professionals, participate in hands-on activities, and get guidance on educational routes to careers in medicine, research and technology. The event aims to broaden students’ awareness of career options and the training required to pursue them.
Speakers and participants
Keynote speakers: Cynthia Daley from the Center for Regenerative Agriculture at Chico State University and Jared Dunaham, a Trinity High School graduate now employed at Beneficial Insectary. Dozens of businesses, industry representatives and colleges are expected to attend, offering a wide view of potential career paths.
Schedule highlights
- 9:40–10:15 a.m. — Opening keynote
- Three breakout sessions through the morning and early afternoon where students can meet professionals and college students
- 11:35 a.m.–12:10 p.m. — Lunch (helicopter landings expected; DJ providing music)
