Newborn Found Alive in Office Toilet Tank in Bangkok
A newborn baby girl was discovered alive inside a toilet cistern in an office building in the Lat Krabang district of Bangkok on Nov. 15. The infant was found by a cleaner on the third floor who heard crying and lifted the tank lid to reveal the child partially submerged in water.
Witnesses and local outlets reported the baby appeared to have been placed in the cistern shortly after birth. She was unclothed and her hands showed signs of brief water exposure — described as pale and shriveled — but hospital staff later confirmed the infant was unharmed and weighed approximately six pounds.
Emergency responders transported the newborn to Sirindhorn Hospital, where she was given medical attention. In video footage shared by Newsflare, the baby can be seen wrapped in white blankets and resting in a hospital crib.
Police statement: "She was a newborn but there was no sign of the mother," said Police Captain Kritsada Saikhong of Lat Krabang Police Station. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and investigating who was in the building and who used the bathroom.
Local media initially reported the girl's condition as "critical," but hospital staff later described her as unharmed. People has contacted Lat Krabang Police Station for comment but had not received an immediate response.
Legal note: Under Thai Penal Code Section 306, abandonment can carry penalties of up to three years in prison and a fine of up to 6,000 baht (about $185) if parents or guardians are convicted.
The investigation is ongoing as police work to identify who left the newborn and to locate the child's mother or any other responsible parties.
