Woman Dies After SUV Rolls Following Deer Collision

Rebecca Oberley, 44, died on November 14, 2025, after being struck and run over by her own sport-utility vehicle following a collision with a deer, the Kansas Highway Patrol said in a press release.

Oberley was driving a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder eastbound on U50 when the SUV struck a deer. She pulled to the roadside to inspect the damage. According to the patrol, the vehicle was in reverse as she stepped out, and Oberley tripped and was run over by the Pathfinder. She later died from her injuries.

A 14-year-old boy who had been in the vehicle was not injured.

Community Fundraiser Underway

A GoFundMe page organized by Diana Dimitt, a coworker of Oberley’s for three years, had raised $650 of a $20,000 goal as of November 17. GoFundMe confirmed the campaign’s verification to PEOPLE.

“On November 14th, 2025, Rebecca’s life was taken in a tragic and unbelievable accident,” Dimitt wrote. “She was on her way from her home in Kinsley, Kansas, to Texas to visit her daughter and two grandchildren — something she was so excited for.”

The fundraiser states the donations will help cover funeral costs, counseling, travel and other needs for Oberley’s family as they cope with the loss. Oberley is survived by her husband, children and grandchildren.
